Barbara Bodine

Villager

Was born near Bloomfield, to a large family, with three sisters, two brothers. She attended the Boston School when her family moved to Cedar Creek community, then graduated from Old Kentucky Home High School in 1954. English had always been her favorite subject, perhaps a preview of her excellent skill with word puzzles, Scrabble and Upwards games, which she currently enjoys. For 27 years, she was employed by a Bardstown sewing factory, where she expedited projects, laid out fabrics and pressed. Then, for six years, she enjoyed the creativity of holiday items, pinafores, tree skirts, floral designs made by NeedleCrafters. After an employee cutback, she was hired by Homecare – a service of Lincoln Trail that became CareTenders, now is LifeLine. There, for 14 years, she traveled in Nelson County and, sometimes, substituted to serve clients from Chaplin, to Springfield and New Haven. Many of them were Nazareth residents, so Barbara became aware of the secure, attractive apartments at the Villages. When forced to retire at 71, due to health issues, she moved to Village I in October, 2006. Here, she is an ardent reader of all but mysteries and enjoys the weekly Bible Study class. She said: “I am thankful for the pretty new kitchen, especially for a larger sink and more cabinet spade – also for the excellent staff and friendly residents who care about me. My family is so relieved that I live here.”
